SERIES ll

I have been witnessing and visiting Ganpati Visarjan places for a lot of years now. The series of photographs present in this album are of varying types, moments, and differ from the first part in a lot of senses. The pictures in some way showcase the influence of the visuals on me and things borne out of constant observation. I have been fascinated with people, their expressions, intense madness for the lord, and the way the part with their beloved god. I always wanted to have a body of work surrounding these aspects.

There are lot of Ganesha idols queuing up for immersion on the seashore. It gets pretty dark in the evening, with lot of idols awaiting their turns. Mumbai police set up make shift watchtowers that keep on scanning the area near the shore, owing to the danger of devotees' drowning or getting carried away with the sea tides. When you look from behind, the revolving searchlight monitors and in the process illuminates the people, idols, vehicles from behind,, and in the midst of it there are a lot of beautiful frames arising everywhere.

The lighting up of people and the idols from behind is very sudden as the searchlight moves across quickly, giving it a moment of extreme brightness and at the next instance, being gobbled up by darkness.The lights and illuminated behinds give a halo-like effect that seems divine and very interesting to me. The submerging of the idol into the sea, with the searchlight highlighting it from behind gives an out-of-world feeling.

This album is the 2nd part of a 3 part series and subconsciously have a change of perspective towards frames that started exciting me.
